An introduction to the Catholic Dragons

 

Hello, My name is Michael Riedel, and I am the founder of the Catholic Dragons. Our Global Office and Headquarters are based in Downtown Billings, Montana. As an organization, we are fully dedicated to the common good and firmly adhere to church teaching. We uphold the dignity and sanctity of human life from conception until natural death, affirm the Church’s teachings on marriage, and believe in the real presence of the body, blood, soul, and divinity in the Holy Eucharist. Charity is at the heart of what it means to be a Dragon; we prioritize caring for our community and the well-being of our fellow Dragons and others.and becoming a member is a deliberate commitment—one of discipleship. Through this commitment, our goal is to grow as better Catholics, improve ourselves, strengthen our church, uplift our communities, and ultimately make a positive impact on the world.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

OUR FOUNDATION AND CORE VALUES

 

The Catholic Dragons were founded on May 27, 2012 A.D., in his basement, and were officially incorporated on August 4, 2014, in Helena, Montana. We are a division of Mary's Army, and our primary spiritual weapon is the Rosary—a key symbol of our Catholic identity. It is our sacred duty to honor and defend the Blessed Virgin Mary as her Dragons. As Dragons of God, we are called to worship Him and offer Him homage. Our order is guided by four essential values: faith, family, fellowship, and fidelity. Faith calls us to serve God—the Son and the Holy Spirit—embodied in our motto: “Serving the Trinity, Serving the Creation.” Family means striving to model our families after the Holy Family. Fellowship is about unity as Catholics and as Dragons. Fidelity is unwavering loyalty to the Trinity and the Holy Father.

 

 

 

 

 

 

OUR DEVOTION AND MISSION

As Dragons, we are deeply devoted to Jesus Christ and our Holy Mother, the Most Blessed Virgin Mary. Our members include activists and citizens dedicated to worshiping God, prayer, defending the Catholic Church, protecting and serving God’s creation, and safeguarding the environment. We are committed to promoting the truth, proclaiming the Gospel, providing humanitarian aid and disaster relief, supporting democracy, volunteering at church, opposing the Church’s adversaries, providing security for our churches, performing works of mercy, advocating for Catholic civil rights, serving the Church, and guiding others to Jesus Christ. To be clear, the Catholic Dragons is not a cult, not associated with anything demonic, not a hate group, not terrorists or armed militia, not aligned with any extreme groups, we are non-partisan, we are not traffickers or spies, not a political or government organization, and not a secret society.

 

THE SYMBOLISM OF DRAGONS

There is a common misconception, especially in Western tradition, that dragons symbolize evil. This is a misunderstanding of the broader truth. While the Book of Revelation (chapter 12, verses 7–9) refers to Satan as a fiery red dragon—specifically a hydra dragon with seven heads and ten horns—this is a singular, symbolic instance. Pope Leo XIII once said, “May she shatter and strike off the multiple heads of the wicked hydra.” Notably, satanic cults use a goat’s head in a pentagram as a symbol; no known cult uses dragon imagery or the word “dragon.” Dragons also appear in Catholic heraldry, where they are used as symbols on coats of arms. For example, the coat of arms of Pope Gregory XIII features a dragon, representing strength and protection. This usage highlights how dragons can convey positive qualities and serve as emblems of safeguarding within the tradition of Catholic heraldry.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

We refer to satan as the dark dragon. If all dragons were inherently evil, then every dragon would have to be villainous, which is not the case. For example, in the Book of Esther, Mordecai dreams of two dragons ready to fight—one representing the evil Haman and the other, according to Mordecai, symbolizing himself as a defender of God’s people. Historically, a chivalric order known as the Order of the Dragon was founded in 1408, pledging allegiance to the Holy See. Dragons, as symbols, are widely recognized for strength, wisdom, and courage across cultures. The symbolism of dragons extends beyond Catholicism and appears in cultures across the world, including Asia and Europe. The widespread presence of dragons as cultural icons underscores their enduring significance and the diverse meanings attributed to them throughout history.

The Catholic Dragons are composed of service-minded men and women dedicated to serving their church, communities, and the world, whether individually or as part of a district. Dragons care deeply about the spiritual welfare and well-being of their loved ones, fellow Dragons, and neighbors. So, the question arises: can a dragon be good? The answer is a profound yes. O God of Heaven and Earth,

​

We proclaim you as our Father, Mary as our Mother, the Holy Spirit as our guide and Jesus as our Brother.
Give us the strength to serve you, to serve others, to do good works and to do Holy things.
Give us the Holy weapon to fight against the dark dragon, known as satan, his demons and all things evil.

Mary, Queen of (Good) Dragons, pray for us.

OUR SEAL, COAT OF ARMS & FLAG

 

The black signifies the universal scope of the Church. White denotes the pursuit of purity. The gold cross symbolizes Jesus Christ, the Holy Eucharist, the earth’s latitude and longitude, and the cardinal compass directions. Each of the four stars, with a point directed towards the center of the cross, illustrates guidance toward Jesus Christ; their five points reference the five decades of the rosary. The two hearts in the seal represent Jesus and Mary, while light blue signifies the Blessed Virgin Mary, revered as Mother and Queen. There are seven interpretations for the four stars, which include:

 

(1) The Gospels in the New Testament: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.

(2) Mysteries of the Rosary: Joyful, Luminous, Sorrowful, and Glorious.

(3) Foundations of Our Lady's message: Prayer, Fasting, Penance, and Peace.

(4) Pillars of the Catholic Church: One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic.

(5) Cardinal virtues: Prudence, Fortitude, Justice, and Temperance.

(6) Values upheld by our order: Faith, Family, Fellowship, and Fidelity.
